Today was Reed’s little award ceremony at school. It’s a celebration of small quarterly achievements. Yes, they are a banal ritual for the adults who attend them, and perhaps for many of the children as well. However, for a young boy who has never been recognized in a public manner, it means a great deal. Yes, yes, I do believe that rewarding kids for every single little triumph makes the events truly worth celebrating trite. However, at this point in Reed’s life, I believe he deserves all the encouragement he can get. The smile on his face says it all!
